The author points out that his interest in the study of resentment arose from clinical practice, in proving the leading role that this affection plays in the genesis and in the persis-tence of the clinical phenomena linked to repetition compulsion. The author’s intent is to develop the particular temporal dimension of resentment and the technical consequences in the analytic process, to elaborate the vicissitudes of the subject’s history that persist through time as frozen chapters, incited in rancor; obstacles that obstruct the process of dialectical temporal integration in both individual and mass psychology. Therefore, the focus is on the study of this key affection: on the power of resentment and remorse, on its metapsychology, both clinical and technical.
