It is argued that the analysis presented in Scognamiglio’s (2025) paper highlights in a one-sided way the harms that the digital world can cause, especially to young people, whereas it can actually be used in a beneficial manner. Web 2.0 can enable many individuals to construct their own identity in many ways, with a level of freedom and creativity that was previously unimaginable. Adaptation to the digital world is possible, just as it happened with previous milestones in human communication, such as writing, the printing press, the telephone, and television.
