The paper critically analyzes the phenomenon of digital ageism, with particular attention to the representation of aging within smartphone applications for older adults. Through a textual and visual content analysis, a sample of apps available on the Italian Apple App Store is examined to highlight how they often implicitly incorporate stereotypes and normalizing narratives about old age. Results show that these apps tend to promote a view of aging centered on performance, autonomy, and productivity, reinforcing a neoliberal rhetoric that risks excluding nonconforming subjectivities. The analysis highlights the need for a critical and inclusive approach to technological design, one that values the diversity of aging experiences.
