Given the significant impact of human resources and their cost on healthcare expenditure and service quality, planning tools aim to ensure optimal service delivery by providing adequate staffing while avoiding public resource waste.
This is particularly complex in the socio-health and social care sectors, where medical professionals work alongside non-medical staff such as social workers and administrative personnel.
This article examines a regional case study, focusing on the experience of the Società della Salute (SdS) in Tuscany.
It reconstructs the development of the SdS, assesses current staffing levels, describes workforce characteristics in relation to service provision, and proposes an initial estimate of non-medical personnel needs.
