Dissociation constitutes the essence of trauma, as it interrupts the dialogue between mind and body. Analyzing neurobiological and relational perspectives, the text describes how traumatic experiences lead to fragmentation of the Self and a disconnection between affects and thought. It explores the mechanisms of autonomic nervous system dysregulation, highlighting hyperactivation or collapse responses. Finally, the authors emphasize the importance of therapeutic work in integrating dissociated fragments through the care relationship, making possible a more coherent reorganization and a process of symbolization that gives meaning to the traumatic experience.
