The author examines the complex relationship between narrative and psychoanalysis. Through the analysis of the debate between Viderman and Pasche, two antithetical positions are compared: on one hand, the conception of psychoanalysis as a constructive and imaginative activity, on the other, the defense of the possibility of objective historical reconstruction. The work explores the role of deformation as a fundamental mechanism for accessing the unconscious, highlighting how narrating inevitably means transforming and deforming psychic material. Criticisms of narratological positions are examined, particularly the risk of dissolving the specificity of Freudian metapsychology and losing reference to historical truth. Finally, the article extends to philosophical and epistemological perspectives – Castoriadis, radical constructivism – that place imagination and constructive capacity at the very foundation of the human. In conclusion, the author proposes a classification of different narrative levels, from grand structuring narratives to subjective stories, emphasizing the inevitably poietic nature of human beings.
Keywords: narrative, psychoanalysis, deformation, construction, reconstruction, imagination.
