The article presents an analysis of the Community Land Trust (CLT) model. The CLT offers an alternative to the commodification of housing, by promoting a governance framework centred on care and the provision of socially and economically inclusive housing. Originating as a grassroots initiative in the United States aimed at protecting common land, the CLT model has since gained recognition in several European countries through practices of civic and political activism. In Italy, the Fondazione di Comunità di Torino is currently in the process of implementing the first CLT in the country. This process is here described, critically examined, and contrasted with La Titaraña project, the first CLT established in Catalonia. The aim is to reflect on the limitations and potential of a strategy that remains legally, socially, and politically novel in the Italian context.
