Remote work is a major transformation in the world of work. However, in order to be truly “smart”, remote working must be supported by appropriate organisational practices and technological tools. Using INAPP data from the Quality of Work Survey of 2021, this article aims to bring out some specific characteristics of remote work performed by public employees, compared to the private sector, within the teleworkable occupations. The results confirm that the remote work experienced by employees in the public sector presented greater difficulties and setbacks, mainly due to a less flexible and slowly changing organisational environment. These criticalities are reflected in a more spread negative assessment of the experience and a lower willingness to adopt this type of work it in the future.
