This paper summarises the results of a recent study led by the European Observatory on Homelessness which operates under the auspices of FEANTSA, the European Federation of Homelessness Organisations. The study compared the nature and extent of non-EU migrant homelessness across 16 EU Member States and drew some comparisons with the UK. The study used a standardised questionnaire which was completed by individuals and teams with the relevant specialist knowledge in each country. The research found that patterns of non-EU migrant homelessness varied considerably across different EU Member States, reflecting different systems for providing (or not providing) temporary accommodation for people seeking asylum (international protection), the level and nature of migration and a range of other factors. It was also found that the level of data collection on non- EU migrant homelessness was highly variable and often limited. This meant that many dimensions of non-EU migrant homelessness were not fully understood at the level of individual EU Member States, nor at EU level. A full report of the study results described here can be found on the FEANTSA website.
