Starting with the analysis of settlements, socioeconomic system, and mobility practices, this essay outlines some interventions for reducing car dependency in the piedmont area of the Veneto region. Recognizing it as a multipolitan system (the outcome not of a mother city but of numerous autonomous and interdependent centralities), in addition to the improvement of local public transportation and sharing practices, the reflection proposes to develop the pervasive web of minor routes as a support for daily active mobility, landscape enhancement, and environmental rediscovery. The article, therefore, attempts to define policies and interventions aimed at reducing car dependency as part of more comprehensive urbanterritorial scenarios.

Keywords: car dependency; secondary infrastructures; multifunctional cycling and walking networks
